With five years under his belt now for the San Francisco Giants, ace right-hander Tim Lincecum is on the verge of accomplishing a rare feat in professional baseball. With only five more strikeouts Lincecum can become only the seventh player all time to accrue 1,000 punch outs in his first five years in the league. His opponent today will be the Washington Nationals, a team he’s had some decent success with, just not as much recently.
Lincecum (5-4 2.59 ERA) has 17 strikeouts against the Nats in his last three carrer starts against them, but is 0-2 with a 5.50 ERA in their last two meetings, including a loss in Washington earlier this year. Timmy is set to duel the Nats John Lannan (3-5 4.05 ERA) who is coming off of back-to-back winning performances against the Padres and Phillies last week at National’s Stadium in D.C.
First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. PT this evening with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
