Major League Baseball released the final American League ballot update for the 2011 Major League All Star Game and as expected the Oakland Athletics remain on the outside looking in. In-stadium balloting is finished, leaving online balloting as the only remaining option to get players into starting spots. As it currently stands, the most significant remaining battle would appear to be between Josh Hamilton and Jacoby Ellsbury for the final outfield spot. Hamilton leads Ellsbury by 121,325 votes with a week of voting left. It will be interesting to see if Red Sox Nation can sufficiently back there man in this final week of voting.
For the A's the question is who will be selected by American League manager Ron Washington. The former A's coach has a few interesting option on the A's pitching staff. Gio Gonzalez and Trevor Cahill are the top two starting candidates from the team, while Grant Balfour and Brad Ziegler are the two best bullpen options. It would have been interesting to see what kind of numbers Jemile Weeks and Scott Sizemore would have had if they started the season on the A's 25-man roster, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Weeks' exciting style of play could be a boon for him in future All Star votes.
