Giants vs. Diamondbacks Starting Lineup: Surprisingly Palatable

The San Francisco Giants have had their share of hitting woes over the past month, so it should come as no surprise that fans of the World Series champs have been quick to gnash their teeth over the lineup card announcements. "Why isn't Miguel Tejada batting tenth" or "Is it that hard to find a replacement for Buster Posey" have become consistent refrains on the streets and computers of San Francisco.

Well, tonight's lineup should provide a fresh new team that even Giants fans can embrace.

Giants

  1. Andres Torres CF
  2. Manny Burriss 2B
  3. Pablo Sandoval 3B
  4. Aubrey Huff 1B
  5. Matt Schierholtz RF
  6. Cody Ross LF
  7. Brandon Crawford SS
  8. Eli Whiteside C
  9. Matt Cain RHP

Diamondbacks

  1. Ryan Roberts 3B
  2. Kelly Johnson 2B
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Stephen Drew SS
  5. Chris Young CF
  6. Miguel Montero C
  7. Xavier Nady 1B
  8. Gerardo Parra LF
  9. Josh Collmenter
Other than Burriss in the two hole, this about reflects the type of lineup the Giants wouldn't mind seeing the rest of the season. Sandoval gets put in the three hole. Huff bats cleanup to try and bring the power. Torres leads off to give San Francisco some kind of offense to start up games. And just plenty of other little adjustments. Interestingly, Tejada has been playing well lately, so his exclusion is a little puzzling. But if you had to ask a Giants fan about the type of starting nine they'd want, this comes close to matching their worldview.
