The San Francisco Giants minor league affiliates have wrapped up another week of exciting MiLB action with some amazing stat lines from some up and coming Giants, including Gary Brown and Brandon Belt. Let's take a look at how the Fresno Grizzlies, Richmond Flying Squirrels, San Jose Giants, and Augusta Greenjackets fared over the last seven days:
Fresno Grizzlies (AAA): Skipper Steve Decker and his Grizzlies went 4-3 over the past week, including a 4-3 win over the Tucson Padres on Sunday. They currently own a 16-15 record in the Pacific Coast League South, 4 games behind the Sacramento River Cats for first place. Brandon Belt is still dominating minor league pitching, batting .417 including a 2-3 day with a run against Tucson on Saturday. Andres Torres has been on a rehab assignment there, and hit a home run on Saturday for the Grizz as well. Next up for Fresno will be a road trip down south with a 4 game set against the Nashville Sounds followed by a 3 game series with the Memphis Redbirds next week.
Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA): The Squirrels had themselves a pretty good week, posting a 4-3 record including a 7-2 loss to the Altoona Curve on Sunday. They have a 14-16 record so far in 2011 and currently sit 1 game behind the Bowie Bay Sox for first place in the Eastern League, although only 1 game separates all the teams in this tightly knit division. Center fielder Juan Perez has been heating up for Richmond, including a 3-4 night on Saturday with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored. The Squirrels will have a chance to get to first place as they head to Bowie for a 3 game set with the Bay Sox this week, followed by a 4 game set at home against the Harrisburg Senators.
San Jose Giants (A): The other Bay Area Giants are off to a terrific start to their season, going 3-4 for the week including a 7-3 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze on Sunday. Skipper Andy Skeels has San Jose at a 19-12 clip so far this season, 1 game behind the Stockton Ports for first place in the California League North. Center Fielder Gary Brown had himself an incredible week, plating 12 RBI over the past 7 games, including 6 RBI on Saturday with his 5-7 performance with 3 doubles and a run scored. The Giants will be home all week as they host the Lancaster Jethawks for a four game set then a 3 game set with the first place Stockton Ports.
Augusta Greenjackets (A): The Greenjackets have continued to struggle this season, posting a 2-4 record this week including a 12-6 loss to the West Virginia Power on Saturday. They have a 10-20 record this season, and currently are second to last in the South Atlantic League South, 6 games behind the Lexington Legends for first place.
