Before this game started, not many could have foreseen the shootout that occurred at Citi Field tonight. But when it was all said and done, The Giants outgunned the Mets 7-6 in 10 innings.
Ryan Vogelsong got roughed up in his second start as a Giant this year, lasting only 4 innings while allowing 5 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. All his earned runs came off of two swings of the bat; a 3 run jack by Carlos Beltran in the first and a 2 run blast by Ike Davis in the third.
The Giants battled back with the small ball at first with three RBI singles in the third by Ryan Vogelsong, Aaron Rowand, and Mike Fontenot, plating 4 runs. Emmanuel Burriss had an RBI ground out in the 4th, then a Nate Schierholtz homer in the 6th gave the Giants the lead temporarily.
A Jose Reyes single in the 6th tied it back up at 6 apiece, and after both the Giants and Mets left the bags loaded in the 9th, it was on to extra innings. And sitting amidst a elongated slump, Aubrey Huff blasted a 10th inning homer to give the Giants the lead, which Brian Wilson got the save for in the bottom of the 10th, his ninth of the year. Javier Lopez (W 1-0) earned his first win of the year with his 1.1 innings of of scoreless baseball, while the Mets Taylor Bucholtz (L 1-1) was tabbed for the loss.
With the win, the Giants move to 14-15 on the season. Full box score can be found here.
