Giants vs. Brewers, Schedule Preview: Matt Cain, Yovani Gallardo Set for Matinee Rubber Match at Miller Park

After the Milwaukee Brewers walked off on the San Francisco Giants for only the second time all season Saturday, the G-Men are going to have to take the rubber match today if they want to remain in first place in the NL West. That will prove to be a bit of a challenge seeing that the Brew Crew are one of the winningest teams at home in MLB. Luckily the Giants have Matt Cain on the bump to try and keep them from falling back anymore in the standings.

Cain (3-3 3.53 ERA) will really need to bring his A game against the slugging Brewers, who despite having players like Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun, both amongst the top in homers so far in the NL, have been relatively quiet this series; but are liable to wake up in a hurry at Miller’s Park.

Cain’s adversary today will be Yovani Gallardo (6-2 4.35 ERA), who is coming off a win against the Nationals where he kept them to one run and five hits in seven innings of work. Gallardo has been on fire as of late, getting a win in his last four straight starts never allowing more than two runs in those contests.

If the Giants can figure out how to plate at least three runs against Milwaukee, they should have a great chance of winning today. History shows us that Matt Cain is a perfect 14-0 when the G-Men score three or more runs since 2010, so get em’ up, get’ em on, get em’ over is the motto for today.

First pitch is set for 11:10 PT this morning with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
