Giants vs. Marlins, MLB Scores: Marlins Complete Sweep with 1-0 Victory Over Giants

Things for the San Francisco Giants have gone from bad to worse over the last few days by the hands of the Florida Marlins. Aside from the injuries to Buster Posey and Mike Fontenot, the Giants were swept by the Fins at AT&T Park after a difficult 1-0 loss this afternoon.

Ryan Vogelsong (L 3-1) limited the Marlins to one run despite allowing eight hits in his eight innings of work, along with one walk will striking out three. It was Vogelsong’s first loss of the season, and a hard one to swallow with how well and how long he pitched today. Of those eight hits only Logan Morrison’s single in the sixth plated a run as Florida left the rest of their runners stranded.

But as good as Vogelsong was, Anibal Sanchez (W 4-1) was that much better. He pitched a complete game shutout allowing only five hits and two walks while racking up eight punch outs. The Giants had a chance in the bottom of the ninth when Freddy Sanchez reached third after a double and a Aubrey Huff ground ball, but Cody Ross ended the rally and the game with a groundout.

With the loss the Giants move to 27-22 for the year. Full box score can be found here.

The Giants head straight to Milwaukee to begin a three game set with the Brewers on Friday. Tim Lincecum (4-4 2.06 ERA) will be on the mound to take on Shawn Marcum (6-1 2.37 ERA) for the Brew Crew. First pitch is set for 5:10 Friday evening with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
