San Francisco Giants News: Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, Chris Stewart All Recalled from Minors

The San Francisco Giants have been hit by the injury bug very hard over the past couple of days, and have had to make some corresponding moves to keep the team intact. Buster Posey’s apparent ankle break and ligament damage is the worst of the injuries, but Darren Ford’s ankle has put him on the DL, while Mike Fontenot will be there shortly with his groin injury. So in response, here come the minor leaguers.

Belt, as we all know, was on the opening day roster but later relegated back to AAA for some extra at bats. Well, he’s gotten 101 of them at Fresno so far and has a .337 average with 21 RBI. His role is not 100% certain as of now, but the Giants need someone to swing the lumber, hopefully that will be Belt.

Single A San Jose will be without their shortstop for a while as Brandon Crawford will also be called up per CSN Bay Area’s Mychael Urban. Crawford started the season off with a broken finger but now is batting .322 with 15 RBI in 69 at bats so far. He’s better known for his work with the leather, and is one of the Giants organization’s highest touted prospects.

Fresno catcher Chris Stewart is being called up at the new backup to former backup Eli Whiteside behind the dish. Stewart is batting .221 with 10 RBI in 95 plate appearnces so far this year.
