Giants vs. Marlins, MLB Scores: Giants Fall to Fins 7-6 in Extras, Lose Buster Posey to Injury

It was a wild and crazy night at AT&T Park, with an ending sure enough to make any Giants fan cringe. The Orange and Black rallied back with four runs in the ninth to force extras, only to lose the game 7-6 in twelve innings; but more importantly the loss of Buster Posey to an injury.

Buster was blocking the plate in the top of the twelfth after Emilo Bonifacio’s sacrifice fly sent Scott Cousins soaring home. Cousins took out Buster hard and injured his foot/ankle. The extent of the injury is still unclear, but it was bad enough for him to be helped off the field without being able to put pressure on that foot. Mike Fontenot also left the game in the fifth with a strained groin.

The Giants offense was rather quiet this evening, plating their first two runs off a Andres Torres double in the third, followed by him scoring on an Aubrey Huff strikeout. They remained quiet until they came back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth with four runs off of a passed ball and singles by Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrell. They had some chances in extra but couldn’t come through.

Madison Bumgarner went for 6 innings allowing eight hits for three runs with two walks and four strikeouts. And after six pitchers came before him, Guillermo Mota (L 2-1) was eventually tabbed for the loss in the twelfth.

With the loss the Giants move to 27-21 on the year. Full box score can be found here.

The Giants will be looking to avoid the sweep tomorrow as they’re set to send Ryan Vogelsong (3-0 1.93 ERA) out on the mound to face Anibal Sanchez (3-1 3.02 ERA) for the Marlins.
