The San Francisco Giants were looking to help out struggling Madison Bumgarner with some much needed runs, but instead did the exact opposite. The Washington Nationals blanked the G-Men 2-0 in a game that saw 7 total hits and no runs scored until the seventh inning.
Bumgarner (L 0-5) had himself a quality start, lasting 7 full innings with 2 runs on 4 hits with one walk and 7 strikeouts. He has pitched more than well enough to win in his last two outings, but the Giants hitters simply can’t figure out a way to help him out.
Their 3 hits came from two players, Aaron Rowand and Cody Ross, with Rowand notching the only extra base hit with a double.
Tom Gorzelanny (W 1-2) went for 8 scoreless innings, allowing the 3 Giants hits while striking out 4. Drew Storen notched his 6th save of the season with the lone Giants walk to Buster Posey as well as a strikeout.
With the loss the Giants move to 13-15 on the year. Full box score can be found here.
The Giants now head to the Big Apple for a three game set with the New York Mets. Ryan Vogelsong (1-0 1.74 ERA) will face the Mets R.A. Dickey (1-3 3.82 ERA) in his second start this year for the GIants. First pitch is set for 4:10 PT tomorrow afternoon and can be seen on CSN Bay Area, and heard on KNBR 680 AM.
