San Francisco Giants Minor League Affiliate Review: Brandon Belt Doing Big Things in Fresno These Days

As another week of the Minor League Baseball season is in the books, it's time once again to take a look at how the San Francisco Giants' minor league affiliates have fared. As you could assume, Brandon Belt has been making a big splash with the Fresno Grizzlies since his relegation from the Giants. But there is plenty more to talk about with the rest of the G-Men of the future.

Fresno Grizzlies (AAA): The Grizz finished the week 2-3 with a rain out on Friday, including a crazy loss to the Salt Lake City Bees 14-15 on Sunday. They currently sit at 12-12 for the season, 2 games back of the Sacramento Rivercats in the PCL South. As previously mentioned, Brandon Belt has been killing it, hitting .458 with 8 RBI and 2 homers since his return to Fresno, including a 3-4 night on Thursday with a home run and a double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Kid's got skills.

Fresno will now head to Colorado Springs for a 4 game set with the Sky Sox, followed by another 4 game set with the Tucson Padres at home.

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA): The Squirrels lost 4 of their 7 games last week, including a 3-1 loss to the Bowie Bay Sox on Sunday. They currently are 10-13 on the season, last in the EAS West and 3 games behind the Bay Sox. Pitcher Ryan Verdugo has been doing very well so far this season, sporting a 1-0 record and a 1.69 ERA in his 4 starts this season. He went for 5 innings on Saturday allowing 6 hits and one earned run while striking out 4 and walking 3. His 1.08 WHIP is also very tidy as well.

Richmond will now head to New Britain this week to face the Rock Cats for a four game set, then back home to host the Altoona Curve for a 3 game series.

Augusta Greenjackets  (A): Augusta has continued to strugge this season, going 3-4 last week including a 4-5 loss against the Lexington Legends on Sunday. They are 8-16 thus far in 2011, 6 games back and in last place in the SAL South. Youngster Carlos Wiloughby is batting .299 for the year with 8 RBI and 10 stolen bases, including a 3 RBI night on Saturday against the Legends.

The Greenjackets will finish up the last 2 games of their series in Lexington with the Legends, then head home to host the West Virginia Power for a 4 game set at the end of the week.

San Jose Giants (A): These Giants are hot right now, going 6-1 last week including a 8-5 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday. They are 16-8 on the season thus far, top in the CAL North division. Nick Liles is batting a whoping .373 with 9 RBI and 4 stolen bags, including a 3-5 night on Friday including 2 RBI.

San Jose will be on the road all next week with a 4 game set in Visalia against the Rawhide, then a 3 game series in Bakersfield with the Blaze.
