Giants vs. Cubs, MLB Scores: Giants Gets Rain Shortened Win 3-0 in Soggy Chicago

On a terribly windy, chilly, and wet evening in Chicago the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs found themselves in some of the worst weather imaginable to play a baseball game in. But amongst a slew of errors and 40 degree temperatures Ryan Vogelsong found a way to get the job done as the Giants escaped victorious by a score of 3-0.

Vogelsong (W 3-0) pushed his scoreless inning streak to 13.1 after lasting for 6 innings, allowing 7 hits with one walk and 7 strikeouts. The Cubs left every runner they had on base as they couldn’t plate a run, despite threatening in just about every inning played.

The Giants 3 runs came off of a Buster Posey single in the first, and back-to-back errors in the third by the Cubs’ Koyie Hill and Blake DeWitt, plating Ryan Vogelsong and Aaron Rowand respectively. Rowand and Freddy Sanchez both were 1-3 with a double apiece.

As for Doug Davis (L 0-1) of the Cubs, he made it only 5 innings, allowing 4 hits 1 earned run, one walk and 6 strikeouts. He was relieved by Jeff Samardzija, allowing one hit, one walk, and one strikeout in his inning of work.

With the win the Giants move to 22-17 on the season, and are now an even 12-12 on the road. Full box score can be found here.

Weather permitting, the Giants will have their final game at Wrigley tomorrow with a battle of the aces as Tim Lincecum (3-3 2.11 ERA) will take on Carlos Zambrano (4-1 4.35 ERA) for the Cubs. First pitch is set for an 11:20 PT start and can be found on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
