Giants vs. Pirates, MLB Series Recap: Giants Win Series Behind Call Up Ryan Vogelsong

The San Francisco Giants arrived at PNC Park in a bad way as they were riding a 4 game losing streak, But as usual, a trip to face the Pittsburgh Pirates usual yields some extra confidence upon leaving the Steel City. The G-Men took two out of three from the Pirates to get back to .500 at 12-12 for the season as they head to the Nation’s Capital to face the Nationals tomorrow.

Pitcher of the Series: Ryan Vogelsong: After bouncing back and fourth between organizations and minor league affiliates, Ryan Vogelsong may have finally found a home with the Giants, if only for a little while. Vogelsong got his first win in his first appearance in a Giants uniform in the regular season today going for 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Barry Zito’s injury was unfortunate, but Vogelsong has become a nice story of the season so far for San Francisco.

Hitter of the Series: Aarom Rowand:
Aaron had himself a big day this morning going 2-5 with 3 RBI, including a 2 RBI double, RBI single, and a stolen bag, home plate. Row has been up and down all season so far, glad to see him have some good at bats.

Upcoming Schedule: The Giants are heading to Washington D.C. tomorrow to take on the Nationals in a 4 game set, starting with Tim Lincecum (2-2 2.70 ERA) taking on Jason Marquis (2-0 3.55 ERA) Friday Afternoon at 4:05 PT.
