Giants vs. Braves, Starting Lineup Preview: Eli Whiteside in for Buster Posey This Afternoon

The San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves have their lineups set and are ready to duke it out on the shores of McCovey Cove this afternoon. Buster Posey will get his second day off of the year as veteran backup Eli Whiteside will get the start behind the dish for Tim Lincecum today. Buster’s been bustin’ his tail off and I’m sure has some heavy legs, and should be back in the lineup tomorrow.

In a bit of injury news the San Jose Mercury News’ Daniel Brown reported that skipper Bruce Bochy is not too optimistic about Andres Torres returning from the DL this Tuesday, saying that “he’s made progress…[but] he still has to check off a couple of boxes.” The Giants need him at full speed, so no point in rushing his return.

Reliever Santiago Casilla threw about 20 pitches off the mound before last night’s game, and is making progress with his ‘cranky’ elbow. He’ll have a rehab assignment soon and looks on track to return in early/mid May, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
