San Francisco Giants News: Pablo Sandoval Injured in BP, Brandon Belt Sent Back to Fresno

The San Francisco Giants hot hitting third baseman Pablo Sandoval injured his right triceps muscle during batting practice today at Coors Field, and was scratched from the lineup because of it. The injury moved Aubrey Huff from off the bench back to first base, and Mark DeRosa over to third as he was set to play first. Trainers said that the injury seemed minor, although it is not 100% certain how much time he will miss.

In other news rookie Brandon Belt was optioned back to AAA Fresno today with Cody Ross returning from the disabled list with a calf injury. Probably not how he’d like to spend his 23rd birthday is on a flight to Fresno, but Belt was is a consumate professional:

“It’s just a bunch of people coming back and not enough spots. Obviously, I have some things to work on. it’s best to get some games and at-bats to figure them out.”

Belt was hitting .192 with only 2 extra base hits in 52 at bats. He never seemed fooled at the plate, as to say he isn’t overmatched in the bigs, he just needs to figure out some things with his swing and he’ll be fine.
