San Francisco Giants Minor League Affiliates Review: Zack Wheeler, Conor Gillaspie Shine for San Jose, Fresno

The San Francisco Giants' minor league affiliates are now two weeks into their respective seasons as some teams are surging while others are struggling. Each team had some solid wins in the past week, and had some nice performances from some possible future Giants. Here's a look at the San Jose Giants, Augusta Greenjackets, Richmond Flying Squirrels, and Fresno Grizzlies week in review:

San Jose Giants (A): The Giants currently sit atop the California League North with a 7-4 record, had a pretty good week. They went 4-3 in their games including a nice victory by a score of 7-3 to the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday. Starting pitcher Zack Wheeler has started the season with a 2-0 record, a 1.69 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and a 11 to 4 strikeout to walk ratio. San Jose will have three more games with the Inland Empire 66ers followed by a 3 game set at the Visalia Rawhide.

Augusta Greenjackets (A): The Greenjackets have had a tough start to their 2011 campaign as they sit in last place in the Southern Atlantic League with a 3-8 record. They finished the week 2-5, including an unfortunate, lopsided loss to the West Virginia Power 7-0 on Sunday. Catcher Daniel Burkhart is starting to heat up, hitting .313 over the past week (5-16) for Augusta. The Greenjackets will have one more meeting with the West Virginia Power, then host the Delmarva Shorebirds for a 5 game set next week.

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA): The Flying Squirrels currently sit in a four way tie atop the Eastern League at a 5-5 clip, and split their games last week 3-3 including a rainout on Saturday against the Altoona Curve, and a 1-5 loss to them on Sunday as well. Pitcher Justin Fitzgerald has had a great start to his season, sporting a 2-0 record and a 0.90 ERA in his 10 innings pitched so far this in 2011. Richmond will have a 3 game set at the Trenton Thunder to start next week, then another 3 game series with the Altoona Curve in Richmond. Their rainout will be made up on Tuesday August 23 as part of a doubleheader.

Fresno Grizzlies: The Grizzlies have seen some shifting in their lineup last week as Darren Ford and Ryan Vogelsong where called up to the Show, but didn't seem to faze them much. They currently sit in second place in the Pacific Coast League South with a 6-5 record and finished 4-3 last week, including a 3-4 loss to the Las Vegas 51's on Sunday. Third baseman Conor Gillaspie is hitting .325 in his last ten games including a home run, three doubles, and 10 RBI's. Fresno will have one more meeting with Las Vegas this week, than a 4 game set at the Tucson Padres and the start of a 3 game set with the Reno Aces.
