The San Francisco Giants Brandon Belt launched his first Spring Training homer, capping off a 5 run 1st inning that lead the Giants a dominating 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Scottsdale Stadium. Every starter besides catcher Chris Stewart got a hit today for the split squad Giants, who will have their second team play the Los Angeles Dodgers at 6:05 PT (7:05 MT) tonight.
The well rounded offensive day looked like this: Brandon Belt finished the day 2-4 with 2 RBI, Mark DeRosa was 1-2 with a 2 RBI double and a walk, Pat Burrell, Freddy Sanchez, and Aaron Rowand all were 1-4 with an RBI a piece; in fact the only starter to record a strikeout the plate was Rowand. These are the kind of games that make you have to take a step back and tell yourself, “it’s only Spring Training, relax.”
Jeff Suppan had another nice start for the Giants today, getting the win in 3 full innings, allowing only one hit and no runs, walks, or strikeouts.Jeremy Affeldt had a interesting inning giving up 2 hits and an earned run, one walk and one strikeout.
As I previously mentioned, the Giants will face the hated Dodgers tonight at Camelback Ranch for the second half of their spilt squad day. Here is the lineup for the G-Men this evening:
CF Ford
SS Fontenot
3B Sandoval
C Posey
RF Ross
1B Ishikawa
DH Eldred
LF Neal
2B Burriss
P Zito
