San Francisco Giants, 2011 Spring Training News: Brandon Belt Makes Opening Day Roster

After months of speculation the San Francisco Giants have finally announced today that rookie sensation Brandon Belt will be on the teams 25 man roster for their opening day match up with the Los Angeles Dodgers. To make room for his arrival on the team, the Giants placed their long time utility man Travis Ishikawa on waivers as well as veteran reliever Marc Kroon.

According to Giants beat writter Andrew Baggerly Belt was overcome with emotions when given the news by skipper Bruce Bochy, weeping tears of joy as his life long dream finally came to fruition this afternoon. And in true Giants fashion, Aubrey Huff was quick to give him a hard time:

You crying yet Belt?” Huff said. “Tear up…I’m going to be tearing up the rest of the year in right field.”

No one will be crying if Belt produces like he’s expected to.

Ishikawa could still stay within the organization with AA Fresno if he clears waivers, but I’d expect a guy with his talents will probably be scooped up by another team. The Giants’ braintrust will have some serious decisions to make when Cody Ross returns from his calf injury, with like cuts coming from either Aaron Rowand or Nate Schierholtz.

Congrats Brandon, you most definitely earned it.
