San Francisco Giants 2011 Spring Training News: Cody Ross Likely to Start Season on Disabled List

San Francisco Giants right fielder Cody Ross will likely start the regular season on the disabled list after injuring his right calf early in yesterdays game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Tempe, Arizona.

Ross had an MRI yesterday to see just how bad his injury was, and it is uncertain as of now just how bad it is, but Giants bear writer Andrew Baggerly said it was significant enough to keep him sidelined for opening day and possibly some of the beginning of the season. This injury will now force the Giants and skipper Bruce Bochy to make some decisions with the opening day lineup and may even even provide the opening needed for Brandon Belt to make the regular season squad out of the gate instead of later in the year.

The Giants will play the Cleveland Indians tonight and we start to fiddle with their outfield lineup as to what will work the best in Ross’ absense, my guess would be Nate Schierholtz. First pitch is at 7:05 tonight and will only be covered by MLB.com for paid subscribers.
