For the second time this week the San Francisco Giants will have a World Series rematch with the Texas Rangers in Cactus League action, with the Rangers looking to even the score thus far in the preseason. The G-Men will travel to Surprise, Arizona to the Rangers' camp for their match up this afternoon.
The Giants beat the Rangers 4-1 on Monday afternoon despite Texas bringing the majority of their starters to that game. The Giants are currently atop all major league teams in the Cactus or Grapefruit league with a record of 13-4, and are looking to extended that lead today.
Here’s your San Francisco Giants:
CF Andres Torres
2B Mike Fontenot
SS Mark DeRosa
3B Pablo Sandoval
RF Cody Ross
1B Brandon Belt
LF Aaron Rowand
DH Nate Schierhotlz
C Chris Stewart
P Ryan Vogelsong
Vogelsong has had a nice start so far and is one of the guys along with Jeff Suppan, Guillermo Mota, Dan Runzler and others who are trying to make the 12th and final roster spot on the pitching staff. It’s interesting to see Rowand playing left field, although he is definitely in the mix to get some playing time there during the regular season. Here’s what San Francisco Chronicle writer John Shea tweeted about Rowand playing a different position:
Rowand on playing LF: “As far as I know, it’s all about getting at-bats any way you can.”
And/or Bochy is getting you some time out there to fill in when necessary during the regular season.
First pitch is at 1:05 PT (2:05 MT) and can be heard on KNBR 680 or viewed at 9:00 p.m. on MLB Network as the game will be aired on a tape delay. Also if you get a chance to watch, MLB Network has their “30 Clubs in 30 Days” series highlighting the 2011 Giants on at 10:00 a.m. and again at noon.
