Barry Bonds To Appeal Obstruction Of Justice Conviction

Former San Francisco Giant Barry Bonds has officially filed for an appeal of his felony obstruction of justice conviction handed down last week in San Francisco.

Bonds’ attorneys paid the $455 fee while filing a one-sentence notice to the federal trial court on Wednesday, saying that his client is asking the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal to throw out his conviction. The case will be assigned randomly to a three-judge panel in the near future.

Bonds was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest along with two-years of probation and a $4,000 fine. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston has decided to delay any imposition until Bonds’ appeal is finished.

Bonds appellate attorney Dennis Riordan guesstimated it could take up to 18 months for a decision to be made, delaying the inevitable for a while more. Bonds was sentenced last Friday of giving an evasive answer during grand jury testimony about a Northern California-based steroids distribution group.
