San Francisco Giants Reality TV Show: Are They About To Jump The Shark?

The 2010 San Francisco Giants magical run to a World Series championship capture the collective imaginations of the Bay Area, but also much of the rest of the country. The team featured a variety of quirky characters and people enjoyed following them to victory. Now it appears Major League Baseball is ready to take this to the next level. Reports indicate the GIants, MLB, and Showtime have come together to create a sort of Hard Knocks-style reality show based on the 2010 Giants:

Similar to HBO's 24/7 series about the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, Showtime will capture footage of the Giants during the 2010 regular season as well as the preseason. Shot over 10 months, the series will premiere around Opening Day, then air regular episodes during the second half of the season. With quirky personalities like Tim Lincecum and Brian Wilson on the Giants, this could be good.

There will reportedly be a preview episode at some time in March leading up to the beginning of the 2011 season. Everybody loves a good story, but one has to wonder how long it might be before there is any sort of backlash to the exposure of the Giants. I don't expect it to happen in San Francisco anytime soon, but the rest of the country might decide they've had enough. Of course, considering how the media often ignores the West Coast, the Giants could very well be under-exposed at this point.
