Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum escaped a potentially disastrous inning thanks to a huge defensive play by first baseman Aubrey Huff. Jimmy Rollins reached first on a tough shot to second and then advanced to second and then third on stolen bases. Lincecum walked Carlos Ruiz with one out, bringing up pinch hitter Ross Gload with a chance to break this game open. Gload hit a hard shot down the first base line right at Huff, who then stepped on first for the double play.
The Giants head into the bottom of the seventh trailing 3-2 with a pinch hitter for Lincecum due up, followed by Andres Torres and Freddy Sanchez. Jose Contreras has entered the game for Phillies starter Roy Halladay who is the pitcher of record for the moment.
