Giants-Braves NLDS Game 3 Update: Jonathan Sanchez's 11 Ks Through Seven Innings Second Best In Giants History

Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez struck out Derrek Lee in the seventh inning to surpass Jesse Barnes (1933), Hal Schumaker (1936), and Jack Sanford (1962) for second place in the Giants record book for strikeouts in a single-game. Tim Lincecum set the franchise record in game one with 14.

Sanchez forced a pair of groundouts to finish off the seventh inning as the Giants still lead 1-0. Sanchez has thrown an even 100 pitches in holding the Giants to one hit. The Giants have Huff, Posey, and Schierholtz due up in the eighth inning and have Santiago Casilla warming up in the bullpen. Even if the series goes five games, Sanchez would not be scheduled to start game 4 or 5, so we’ll see if Bochy keeps him out there a bit longer.

Head over to McCovey Chronicles to discuss the game in their Live Game Thread.
