The San Francisco Giants have taken a 1-0 lead in game three of the NLDS thanks to today’s lineup replacement Mike Fontenot. The new third baseman led off the second inning with a triple that led to Jason Heyward getting shaken up. Heyward had the ball in his glove as he hit the right-center field wall but the ball was jarred loose on a tough hit against the wall. Fontenot was able to race to third on the play.
Cody Ross followed that with a bloop to right field on which second baseman Brooks Conrad committed his second error of the game. As the announcers noted, Heyward likely could have gotten to that but the previous play might have left him a bit loopy.
