The San Francisco 49ers (2-0) will travel to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Vikings (1-1) at Mall of America Field in Minneapolis on Sunday.
The 49ers are favored in the contest, but the road game has the makings of a trap matchup for San Francisco. Minnesota will be led by a resurgent Adrian Peterson, who is running with vigor and averaging 4.4 yards per carry after suffering a devastating knee injury in 2011.
San Francisco will look to stay as focused as they have been in the past two games, notching convincing wins over the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, to remain undefeated. The defense should pressure second-year signal caller Christian Ponder and make every effort to disrupt any rhythm he can muster up in order to focus on stopping Peterson.
The Niners offense has been equally as impressive as its highly-touted defense this season, and quarterback Alex Smith's steady play has everything to do with it. He's been the model of efficiency thus far in 2012, throwing for 437 yards and four touchdowns against zero interceptions.
The running game for San Francisco has helped the team sustain drives and control the clock, thanks to the team's inspirational leader Frank Gore, who is averaging a monstrous 6.1 yards per carry and has two touchdowns on the year.
