According to reports, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to sign outside linebacker Clark Haggans. The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows and CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco were the first to report it.
Haggans, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals, was released on Friday from the Cardinals and, pending a physical, should sign with the Niners on Sunday.
As further explained on Niners Nation, Haggans, a 12-year veteran, will add depth to the linebacking core that only kept three outside linebackers on the 53-man roster after the Niners' final roster cuts on Friday. The Niners got away with only three last season but Parys Haralson has already missed some practice time, so adding depth to the position makes sense.
Haggans does have a 2011 DUI lingering over his head and may still face league discipline.
