According to the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was involved in a serious car accident at 11:45 p.m. Friday when a car he was a passenger in swerved to avoid a deer and ended up on its side in a dirt embankment.
Smith suffered a cut above his eye that needed stitches while the driver suffered a broken back. Smith was treated at Stanford Hospital while the unidentified driver was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center. The crash occurred near Smith's home in San Jose. The California Highway Patrol said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Smith was still able to play on Sunday and recorded a sack. In two games, Smith has eight tackles and two sacks. As a rookie last season, Smith recorded 37 tackles and 14 sacks as he helped turn the 49ers into one of the best defenses in the league.
