Despite the San Francisco 49ers' defense giving up 122 passing yards and 17 points in the first three Denver Broncos possessions in Sunday's Week 3 preseason game, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is not worried.
Peyton Manning dissected the defense and made several tight throws to lead the Broncos against the 49ers, who were missing key players Aldon Smith, NaVorro Bowman and Chris Culliver.
"We just didn't play well enough on certain plays," said Fangio. "I think it was a great learning experience for us. Some of the plays we broke down, we definitely could've played better. And in some instances, they just beat us one-on-one."
The first-team defense has been through preseason woes before. Last season, Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub lit up the 49ers for 180 yards and 24 points in the first half of the team's third preseason game.
The 49ers have forced just one punt in seven series in the preseason, with the opposition scoring 26 points on two field goals and four touchdowns.
