In the San Francisco 49ers' deep stable of running backs, second-year back Kendall Hunter was able to separate his performance from the rest of the pack Saturday night, rushing for 46 yards on six carries during the Niners' 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans.
Hunter was among a few players who used Saturday night's preseason action to make a name for themselves. Hunter has generated some buzz in San Francisco after rushing for 473 yards and two touchdowns in 2011.
Linebacker Eric Bakhtiari has similarly seen his performances during the preseason speak volumes about his potential. Bakhtiari led San Francisco with seven tackles against Houston, after claiming two sacks last week against the Vikings in preseason action.
Bakhtiari's strong performance takes a little weight off the defense as a whole, which was exposed at times against quarterback Matt Schaub and the Texans' offense during the Niners' loss.
