San Francisco 49ers Sign A.J. Jenkins To Four-Year, $6.9 Million Deal

The San Francisco 49ers have secured all their drafted rookies by locking up their first round draft pick A.J. Jenkins. Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that Jenkins, who was picked 30th overall out of the University of Illinois by San Francisco, agreed to a four-year, $6.947 million contract with the possibility of a $3.49 million signing bonus down the line.

Maiocco had this quote from head coach Jim Harbaugh on Jenkins.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said he has been impressed with Jenkins' attitude. When Jenkins first reported to the 49ers' offseason program, Harbaugh commented that Jenkins was not in the kind of physical condition that would be needed.

"He's very into it, very gung-ho," Harbaugh said. "Very fast, fast, fast. He's got excellent hands. He's got the ability to get in and out of cuts with his foot speed. And the turnover, he doesn't get stuck in routes. He doesn't get stuck at the top of the routes. He's able to get out of those cuts. And he's right on track. A.J. Jenkins is going to be just fine."

Jenkins had been working with the team this offseason, although he did have an injury waiver. He can now work toward trying to secure a starting spot, although with Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree ahead of him he might have some work to do to get onto the field at an early point.
