49er fans got a mock draft respite on Tuesday from Stanford TE Coby Fleener when CBSSports.com's Pat Kirwin mocked Syracuse DE Chandler Jones to San Francisco. Though the vast majority of mocks project that the 49ers will go with a tight end or receiver, or possibly a guard or tackle, fewer project another defensive end/outside linebackers to the Niners in the first round, following their selection of Aldon Smith in 2011. Per Kirwan:
Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse: He has been rising up draft boards after teams are satisfied with his recovery from a knee injury that kept him out of five games last year. He has long arms and could pack on more good weight with his frame.
It would boost the 49ers already elite defense and Vic Fangio could certainly find interesting ways to work Jones into their schemes. At worst, it's someone new for 49er fans to research as we sweat out the final two weeks prior to the Draft.
