NFL Mock Draft 2012: San Francisco 49ers Select Brandon Boykin From Georgia

The San Francisco 49ers had a breakout season in 2011 and were a few fumbles away from a Super Bowl appearance. Not only is the team talented at most positions on the field, but they're also deep enough to help cover any injuries that arise. There are few positions that undoubtably need upgrading at the 2012 NFL Draft, but cornerback is one of them.

The latest mock draft from Peter Schrager and FOX Sports has the 49ers improving their secondary with the No. 30 overall pick:

30. San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia: This may surprise some folks at the outset, but Boykin's been a talented performer since he first got to Athens.

Boykin doesn't have a big frame, but he plays taller and stronger than he appears. He's got great hands, can pull double-duty in the return game, and has a wonderful knack for the ball.

San Francisco would love to grab a playmaking wide receiver here, but they won't reach to grab one.

As mentioned above, most feel the Niners would like to take a wide receiver here, but there isn't a ton of talent available once Justin Blackmon is off the board. Unless the team finds a way to get creative, it seems like they will go the secondary route at the 2012 Draft.
