NFL Mock Draft 2012: Todd McShay Predicts San Francisco 49ers Select Alfonzo Dennard

The 2012 NFL Draft is right around the corner and the San Francisco 49ers are eager to improve their team after coming up just short this past season in the NFC Championship Game. While there aren't too many glaring areas to improve, the secondary could benefit from an influx of talent. According to Todd McShay of ESPN, the 49ers will select a cornerback with the No. 29 overall pick.

Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

Dennard has some durability issues and lacks ideal recovery speed, but he shows good instincts and a physical style, and his 2010 tape is far better than the injury-plagued version we saw in 2011. He could be a good fit for a 49ers secondary that could lose Carlos Rogers to free agency and needs an overall talent upgrade.

Dennard played well at Nebraska and could definitely be underrated due to the injury plagued season he had in 2011, but he would need a clean bill of health before San Francisco would even consider taking him. The 49ers have also been linked to various wide receivers with their first round pick, but it looks like it may be slim pickings by the time they're on the clock.
