NFL Mock Draft 2012: 49ers Select Offensive Lineman Peter Konz

The San Francisco 49ers were on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance just a few weeks ago and the franchise is determined to take that next step towards greatness. After a stellar showing in the draft last year, the team will look to repeat their success once again at the 2012 NFL Draft. There are few glaring weaknesses with the roster as it is constructed now, but you can always improve in one way or another.

This latest mock draft from NFL Draft Update sees the 49ers bolstering their offensive line in the first round.

San Francisco doesn't have many very glaring holes and despite not being a weak link in 2011, Jonathan Goodwin is not a long-term solution to the center position. Peter Konz is the draft's top center and may even be able to help at guard as rookie as well. A prototype at his position, Konz joins tackles Joe Staley, Anthony Davis and left guard Mike Iupati as 1st round picks playing on the 9ers offensive line.

Many would like to see the 49ers take a wide receiver to help Alex Smith and the passing game, but there are slim pickings this year once Justin Blackmon comes off the board. San Francisco could also look to take a cornerback with free agency looming.
