49ers Reportedly Sign LB Tavares Gooden

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly come to terms on a one year deal with linebacker Tavares Gooden. Gooden was cut by the Ravens on Saturday after they were reportedly unable to come to terms on a trade with the 49ers. The 49ers have not officially announced the move and it remains to be seen who will be released to make room for the newest addition to the team.

The addition comes the same day the 49ers released LB Keaton Kristick to make room for QB Scott Tolzien. Kristick was likely behind Larry Grant at the inside linebacker position and Gooden likely will also be behind Grant at the inside linebacker position for the time being.

As to who might be cut to make room, the 49ers have a bit of an excess of defensive linemen at this point with a backup available at all three positions. While depth is great, it is a tough sell to have that extra defensive lineman who might not be able to sufficiently contribute on special teams.
