49ers Release Keaton Kristick, Add To Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers have made three additional moves on Sunday. After claiming Scott Tolzien off waivers earlier in the day, the 49ers made a corresponding 53-man roster move by releasing linebacker Keaton Kristick. By claiming Tolzien the 49ers have to add him to the 53-man roster for at least one week, which meant a need to clear out a roster space. Kristick still could end up on the 49ers practice squad as he has another year of PS eligibility.

In other news, the 49ers have continued filling out their practice squad. They reportedly signed outside linebacker Monte Simmons to the squad and released McLeod Bethel-Thompson within about an hour of adding him. That gives the 49ers six players on their practice squad:

C Chase Beeler
TE Konrad Reuland
WR Joe Hastings
CB Cory Nelms
OL Derek Hall
OLB Monte Simmons

The 49ers had signed McBLT to the practice squad, but that might have been while they were awaiting word on their waiver claim of Scott Tolzien. Once they received word they won the Tolzien claim, it made sense to release McBLT.
