The San Francisco 49ers are a little over an hour away from the 3:00pm eastern deadline for cutting their roster from 80 players to 53. The team has not made any cuts official, but reports have leaked out about a variety of cuts, with agents and players alike tweeting the good or bad news.
The 49ers cuts thus far appear to include QB Josh McCown, S Chris Maragod, WR Dominique Zeigler, WR Joe Hastings, WR Chris Hogan, S Curtis Taylor and C Chase Beeler. Of those players, Hastings and Beeler have reportedly been told the 49ers would like to sign them to the practice squad if they clear waivers. Hastings has flown under the radar in the media, but Beeler has been getting some publicity ever since he helped out in tutoring at Camp Alex over the summer. Beeler played for 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford, so it's not a shocking decision.
It is also interesting to note that the 49ers have decided to keep nose tackle Ian Williams and possibly linebacker Keaton Kristick on the roster. Williams tweeted that he made the roster, while Kristick tweeted "Can't wait to run around candlestick this fall!!!" That isn't confirmation, but I can't imagine many other interpretations of that. Congrats to both on making the roster.
