Several of the 49ers beat writers published pieces on outside linebacker Aldon Smith and his job in practice outside of simply taking defensive reps - he was called on by Matt Maiocco to take reps on the scout team as DeMarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys. Now, Smith is a far cry from Ware, at least at this point in their careers, what with Smith having one NFL start, and Ware being the NFL's leading sack-producer on two separate occasions, but it's at the very least a fitting comparison.
↵Smith did draw comparisons to Ware when he was drafted, mostly because of his impressive wingspan, but for 49ers fans who were surprised of the selection (he must have been mocked to the team in one, maybe two out of hundreds of mock drafts), even talking about Smith-Ware comparisons is almost unfairly tantalizing. I know for me, the thought of Smith being anything remotely even close to Ware is just about enough to get me salivating.
↵Matt Maiocco's title is the essence of that: 49ers rookie Smith mimics Cowboys' Ware. Maiocco notes how Smith has talked about studying Ware and his technique, especially his transition from defensive end to outside linebacker. Let's just assume he's going to be watching closely on Sunday.
