The San Francisco 49ers signed two more linebackers today to one year deals. They seem like they're really good at doing linebacker things, like tackling and coverage and making little babies cry for the sheer thrill of it all.
Antwan Applewhite and Larry Grant are their names. Here are their stories via the 49ers press release:
"Applewhite (6-3, 258) originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2008. He has played in 31 games (13 starts), recording 68 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed. In 2010, Applewhite played in 16 games (13 starts) and set career highs in tackles (48), sacks (3.0) and forced fumbles (two).
Applewhite, a 25-year old native of Los Angeles, CA, starred collegiately at San Diego State where he earned first-team All-Mountain West Conference as a junior.
Grant (6-1, 251) originally entered the league as a seventh round draft choice by the 49ers in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was signed to the 49ers practice squad following training camp. Grant was signed to the St. Louis Rams active roster on November 26, 2008, and was released by St. Louis on July 30, 2011. He has played in 34 games (eight starts) and has registered 48 tackles, 3.0 sacks and three forced fumbles in his three-year career.
Grant, a 26-year old native of Santa Rosa, CA, began his collegiate career at City College of San Francisco before transferring to Ohio State."
PS: Applewhite was under suspicion for a DUI once. Wonder if they'll ever put that on the press release!
