Johnathan Joseph Agrees To Contract With Houston Texans; Nnamdi Asomugha Left With 49ers Or Jets

The cornerback dominos continued to fall Thursday afternoon as free agent cornerback Johnathan Joseph agreed to terms with the Houston Texans on a five year deal. After Nnamdi Asomugha, Joseph was considered one of the best free agent cornerbacks.

This transaction is significant for a couple of reasons. The first is that Joseph was a backup option for the 49ers if they were unable to acquire Nnamdi. Now that Joseph is out of the picture, the 49ers are left hoping they can land Nnamdi. if they are unable to sign him they would then be looking at Chris Carr and/or Nate Clements under a restructured contract.

The second reason this is significant is because Houston was in the running with the 49ers and Jets to sign Nnamdi. As it now stands, the 49ers and Jets are the two teams left in the Nnamdi sweepstakes. The Jets are reportedly leading the race, but until he makes a decision, this race remains up in the air.
