Wendell Tyler, San Francisco 49ers Legend, Says Son Marc Isn't Getting Paid By USC

The furor surrounding Marc Tyler has a lot to do with his comments insinuating that the USC Trojans are paying him to play football. That is not the type of press USC would like, ever, and not with the program finishing up its run of bowl probation and already facing damaging scholarship reductions.

Marc's dad Wendell had to step in and try to clear up the issue. He did a report with TMZ that clearly stated his son had never, ever been paid by USC. For Bay Area fans unfamiliar with Wendell, he rushed for over 6000 yards in his ten seasons in the league, and spent four years with the San Francisco 49ers. His best season came in 1984, when he rushed for 1,262 yards and seven touchdowns, added on 230 receiving yards and two more scores, was a Pro Bowl selection (his only Pro Bowl), and played in Super Bowl XIX and won his only Super Bowl ring.

It's not easy to figure out exactly how much Wendell knows about his son's relationship with Southern California, but Niners fans have to hope that this isn't just a dad sticking up for his boy.
