The NFL Network has begun airing their newest series on the Top 100 Players in the NFL heading into the 2011 season. The rankings were determined by a vote of current players, so it goes beyond just basic fandom. The NFL Network aired plenty of commercials for the series, so it wasn't hard to not know about this.
The series started tonight with an airing of players 91-100, which included Darren McFadden at the 98th spot and Frank Gore at the 94th spot. The rankings are being revealed ten spots at a time over ten Sundays, which means we won't be able to full analyze the rankings until later this summer. As it currently stands, it is hard to tell whether Gore and McFadden are sufficiently ranked. As a 49ers fan it is easy for me to be very subjective about Gore's ranking. I believe the rankings are actually based on how the players stand heading into 2011, so I can see why Frank Gore would be a little further down.
