Todd McShay, Mel Kiper Second Round Mock Drafts: Colin Kapernick, Brandon Harris Catch 49ers Eye

The San Francisco 49ers braintrust of head coach Jim Harbaugh and GM Trent Baalke made a splash with Aldon Smith in the first round, and now must focus on making the team better in the second. ESPN’s Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. have released their latest second round mock drafts and have the Niners looking to fill separate holes in their roster at this point in the draft.

In McShay’s mock draft, he has the University of Miami’s corner back Brandon Harris headed to the Niners withe the 45th overall pick. CB is definitely a top priority for San Francisco, and Harris is probably the best one left on the board at the moment. If the 49ers nabbed him in the second round, I’m sure they would be elated as he could make an immediate impact next season.

Kiper Jr. has the Niners choosing Nevada’s quarterback Colin Kapernick in his latest mock. I think he would be a great choice for the Niners has he brings NFL skills with his size, cannon arm, and top notch speed, although some feel he is a project pick for San Francisco. Harbaugh is great at developing QB’s, and in my opinion Kap just needs some polishing instead of full bore retooling. He’d be a great addition to compete for the starting position.
