NFL Draft 2011: 49ers Work Out Louisville CB Johnny Patrick, Still Considering Prince Amukamara?

Although the NFL Draft is starting today, that hasn't stopped teams from working out players right up until the last minute. National Football Post is reporting that the 49ers conducted a last minute workout with Louisville cornerback Johnny Patrick earlier this week. They previously had dinner with him following his Louisville Pro Day workout. The 49ers have a big need at the cornerback position, so it is not surprising they are wining and dining cornerbacks as they have been doing with quarterbacks.

In somewhat related news, SB Nation released their final 2011 NFL mock draft of the year and as has been par for the course, they once again have Prince Amukamara projected to the 49ers:

7. San Francisco 49ers: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska. San Fran would be leaving serious talent on the board with this pick, but Amukamara is a clean, potentially elite talent at a huge position of need for the 49ers.

Amukamara is an interesting talent as he has moved all around draft boards. Bill Parcells actually had him ranked higher than Patrick Peterson and there are arguments to be made that he's a very valid pick at number seven. The 49ers have cornerback options through the first three rounds, while also considering their quarterback and pass rushing needs. It should make for a crazy few days of drafting.

The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft starts at 8 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, April 28th and SB Nation has everything you need to prepare for it - NFL mock drafts, draft projections, scouting reports, the full NFL draft schedule and more.
