Sports Illustrated's Peter King released his latest 2011 NFL Mock Draft on Tuesday and his decisions could leave some 49ers fans scratching their heads, or at least a little curious about the resutlts. King made some trades as part of his mock and it included the 49ers dealing away the seventh overall pick in exchange for the Houston Texans' eleventh pick. What's most interesting about the deal is the 49ers make the move even with Patrick Peterson on the board. He has the 49ers moving to the eleventh pick and selecting Prince Amukamara.
11 49ERS*
WILL PICK
Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
SHOULD PICK
Andy Dalton, QB, TCU
You can't knock San Francisco for taking a relative sure thing in the clean-living, clinging cover man who will step in as a rookie and upgrade a mediocre secondary. But when I envision Jim Harbaugh's West Coast offense, I see it being run by Dalton, a smart, egoless player who's just a smidge shy on the deep outs but works and processes the passing game like Peyton Manning-and just might be the next Drew Brees.
It's an interesting question whether the 49ers should pass on Peterson to grab more draft picks. If they are sold on Prince as a viable alternative, they could move down to acquire picks that would allow them to move up from their current second round selection if they believe a specific QB is available. Many people think Patrick Peterson is the best player on the board, regardless of position. Do you pass on him unless you're convinced Prince could be the answer?
