The San Francisco 49ers host the Pittsburgh Steelers at Candlestick Park on Monday Night Football and people traveling to the game should expect a ton of traffic. The 49ers have issued a traffic advisory, suggesting people either carpool or take public transportation to the game. Additionally, to encourage fans to get into the stadium early, the 49ers have special pregame entertainment and activities for fans that enter the stadium early, including a 50% discount on food and soft drinks at several concessions stands.
If you are not able to carpool, San Francisco Muni has several great options for getting to Candlestick Park. What's more, they are cheaper than paying the $30 or more to park in and around the stadium. Head after the jump to view a breakdown of the various options.
I've had the chance to take the T-Third Street Line. You can pick it up as far west as West Portal. You get off at the Gilman/Paul station and use your free transfer to take an 87 bus to the front of the stadium. The T-Third Street Line costs $2 each way.
You can also pick up some of the express busses listed below. They charge $12 for a round trip ticket. If you have a Muni pass, it is $8 plus the pass.
