San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh and Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur likely won't be getting into any fisticuffs after their two teams meet at Candlestick Park this Sunday, breaking the hearts of everyone out there looking forward to a possible sequel to "handshake-gate" that took place in Detroit.
↵Harbaugh and Shumur actually go back a long time, back when Harbaugh was the quarterback at Michigan and Shurmur was an offensive lineman at Michigan State. That seems like a decent reason to hate each other, right? No, actually, as Shurmur described their relationship as "friendly and professional," and will undoubtedly end in a by-the-book handshake at midfield Sunday afternoon.
↵To delve even further, Shurmur was an assistant with the Eagles with current Ravens head coach John Harbaugh from 1999-2007, and got to know the Harbaugh patriarch, Jack. Shurmur is also friends with John Harbaugh's brother-in-law, Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean, from his assistant coach days at Michigan State from 1988-97. Crean was a graduate assistant basketball coach at MSU for 1989-90 season.
↵So don't hold your breath for some postgame drama.
