The Detroit Lions have looked like one of the more dominant football teams in the league this far in the season, but likely will be without one of their key offensive players this Sunday as tight end Tony Scheffler is looking like he won't be suiting up against the San Francisco 49ers.
Scheffler suffered a concussion after being hit by Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher during Monday's win over the Bears, causing him to miss practice for the second straight day on Thursday as he deals with the effects of the injury. This injury significantly affects Detroit's depth chart at the TE position, causing the team to pick up former 49er Joe Jon Finley to help out Brandon Pettigrew this Sunday.
Whatever advantage the Niners can get they'll surely take it, especially against an offense that's been so hot like Detroit's has. Look for Brandon Pettigrew to have himself a day this weekend.
Scheffler has just four catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns in five games played this season.
