NFL Week 14 Point Spread, 49ers vs. Seahawks: Slight Edge To Home Team

New, 2 comments

The San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday in a potential elimination game for them. If the 49ers lose they’re eliminated from playoff contention and if they win they could move to within a game of first place in the NFC West. In spite of the 49ers struggles, the gambling has opened with them as five point favorites more or less across the board.

The 49ers and Seahawks have developed a fairly intense rivalry even though one or both has struggled over the last few years. Seattle has won five of the last seven games in this series and in spite of rivalry, it’s included quite a few relatively one-sided affairs. The last matchup was this year’s season opener in which the Seahawks beat down the 49ers 31-6.

This game really could go either way given the crazy nature of the NFC West and the 49ers 2010 season. In reality I wouldn’t touch this game with a ten foot pole. The 49ers are dealing with a messy 2010 season and find themselves going back to original starting QB Alex Smith. They’re as big a question mark week to week as any team in the NFL.

However, if I had to put money on it, I’d go with the 49ers and the points because home teams have generally fared best in NFC West matchups (Arizona doesn’t count). The 49ers very well could lose this match, but if they win I think it’ll be by more than the five point spread. However, I could also see folks putting there money on San Francisco and bringing this line down. If you’re willing to wait, I could see this line coming down a point or two.
